April 5, 2017

On Wednesday the S&P 500 finished the day down 0.3% and Toronto was down 0.1%. Earlier in the day the DOW had been up 200 points.

Stantec was up 1.6%. And Canadian Tire was up 0.8% to $161.29. I marvel at the success of Canadian Tire as many other retailers struggle mightily. Another great Canadian retail success story, Dollarama was up up 1.7% to $113.87. It’s hard to believe that this company had an IPO in late 2009 at $8.75 (split adjusted). At current prices, my pick among these three would be Stantec.

Futures this evening are predicting that the S&P 500 will decline moderately on Thursday.
